“It was developed as part of a secret four-year project, however pieces of the project were dangled beneath the public’s nose all along. Former Daimler-Chrysler Chairman Bob Eaton likes to say, “it was developed in plain sight”. In fact, the first public showing of the concept came in January 1997 under the guise of the Plymouth Pronto - a tall five-door hatch developed off the neon platform. In March 1998. Chrysler again lifted the curtain of secrecy to show the Pronto Cruizer - a three-door hatch with a retro hot rod styling theme. At the 199 North American International Auto Show, all the pieces came together in the form of the PT Cruiser, which married the styling of the Pronto Cruizer with packaging of the original five-door Pronto.”

The PT Cruiser. I am a man of class, and a man of needs. I desire the attention given to both mini vans and sports cars. And when I realised both needs could not be met in simply one car. I fell into a depression, I felt hopelessness, downtrodded, simply put I was depressed. But I came across the PT Cruiser. The answer to my problems. The perfect car just for me. You see the PT Cruiser fits me well because it is so spacious. I can fit many ladies in my vehicle. By the way the women love the leather, you gotta have the leather… okay so back to my needs with the women. I can not simply have one lady in a really nice sports car like a ferari or a jaguar. No I need several ladies cruising with me at all times. Cruising at a safe 50 ish miles an hour on the freeway… esentially “cruising”. You see I like to get down and dirty while on the road… and extreme speeds can put me in predicaments I would not like to be in.

The rear windows can only be controlled by two buttons on the back of the center console. This turned out to be less inconvenient than we would have thought.
The Chrysler PT Cruiser embodies the romance of American automotive heritage.
“The easiest way to be hip these days is to drive a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser. Even in glamourous Hollywood, some celebrities and executives are chucking their expensive Mercedes-Benzes and BMWs and driving up to the studio gate in the retro-styled PT Cruiser with the low-end sticker price. According to a Daimler-Chrysler official, award-winning actor Tom Hanks, movie director Barry Levinson and comedian Robin Williams all caught the bug after the PT Cruiser went on sale in the spring. “It’s the hottest car in Hollywood,” the official said. “They don’t care what it costs. It’s all about style.”“

“Today we tested the PT Cruizer’s [sic] six-position change tray (or, more accurately, its six small change trays). These are rubbery, designed to hold coins in place even over bumps, so there’s no jangling of cash. It’s a nice touch.”
